Guest Blogger(s): Men’s Cutting Coaches Meagan MacPhee and Robert Kelly

Our Men’s Cutting Coaches, Megan and Robert, put together a weekly newsletter for our educators that highlights techniques, pedagogy, and products.  I loved this feature on the importance of workshops.  I hope you enjoy it, too!  ^AS

“Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” William Butler Yeats

I am sure we can all agree as educators that one of the things we hear the most from our Future Professionals is that they are afraid to take a service.  This seems to be especially true for men’s cuts.  How many times, if any, have they had the opportunity to work on a male guest?

Salon floor workshops during downtime may not be the all-inclusive fix to their fears, but it’s a great place to start!  As our team lead Carrie Bellus says,” the Salon floor is our largest classroom.”  In light of that, are we utilizing our time on the Salon floor to model techniques and to invite them to experience hand’s on during a workshop?

Our Future Professionals have the answer on where they feel they need further instruction.  Want to know what to show the FPs? Ask!  Once we have the information, 4mat a salon floor workshop and watch for your F.P’s ah-ha moments and celebrate the fact that you care enough about their education to deliver a better understanding of our curriculum. Glitter applause

Now that we’re half way through January and the excitement of your resolutions is getting less sparkly by the day, lets talk about keeping your resolutions.

1. Become accountable for your goals- Confide in a friend, significant other, or even social media about your goals. By doing this you are more likely to stick to your game plan, it doesn’t hurt to gain a few supports along the way.

2. Celebrate your little goals.-reward your self with your small goals! When you do this you are giving yourself motivation towards your BIG goals.

3.Give yourself some slack. Had an off day? That’s ok! We all do, just make sure to pick yourself back up and start again!

Culture clash

The story behind Quinoa

So we all know that Quinoa is delicious but what does it do for our hair and where does it come from? When you are perusing your nearest AVEDA experience center you can find this key ingredient in the Damage Remedy line.

“Considered sacred by the Inca Indians for its valuable life-supporting nutrients, quinoa has flourished in the Peruvian Andes for over 5,000 years. Known in Quechua, the language of the Incas, as chisiya mama or “mother grain,” quinoa is very rich in protein more than all other grains. Today, Aveda sustainably sources quinoa for the protein in our Damage Remedy™ restructuring hair care”

Hand Relief cuticle control

With winter in full force around the country (except here in sunny AZ) hands are getting dry and chapped. Lucky for us AVEDA has the cure, cuticle control + hand relief! For maximum moisture apply cuticle control and hand relief before going to bed with gloves over your hands. Using the gloves ensures none of the moisture escapes!

8 Ways to BEAUTIFY!

Have you ever tried Aveda’s Beautifying Oil? Here are 8 ways to use it, treat yourself with a little relaxed wellness.

8 ways to beautify

Back in October the Aveda Institute in Provo held their PINK Hair and Makeup Show! It was such a fun night! The student’s work was great, and we even enjoyed some entertainment before the big fashion show with a vocal group, dance team, and a magician! Besides all the fun talent we got to see that night we had a big silent auction to help raise even more money to go towards Breast Cancer Research. We had so many generous people and companies donate to our silent auction. Here at AIP we raised over $6,000 for cruelty free breast cancer research from our PINK show! Aveda is always looking for ways to give back, and love that we were able to do that while showcasing the student’s talent as well.

Green Science™ Firming Eye Creme

green eye

There is a reason this little jar has 5 stars from over 300 people on the Aveda Website. The Aveda Green Science Firming Eye Creme is what I would call magic in a bottle. I have personally started using it and have fallen in love! But don’t take my word for it, check out some reviews left on the site.

Did someone see my bags?

I lost them. 2 weeks ago my bags were right here under my eyes. Now they’re gone. The only thing I did was start using this cream at night. I can’t find my fine lines either.

No need for Masking Tape anymore

April 10, 2011

You will have no use for your tape to stretch those eyes to help them look younger. Green Science Firming Eye Creme has been a life saver. I went from looking like Geroge Burns to Justin Bieber. Well not that drastic but still, It really is a wonderful product. Initially you will feel a little warm feeling around your eye but its nothing to be alarmed about. It will soon disappear after using the product for a few times. I never leave the house without applying the eye creme. I’ve been using it since it came out and I have recently been getting a tremendous amount of compliments on area around my eyes. Too bad I had to throw away my tape, I had every color and design. But with Green Science Firming Eye Creme, a guy can thank his lucky stars for younger looking eyes.
The Best Eye Cream
October 4, 2011

I’ve been using this cream for a few years now. When I stopped using it for a while to try something else, I really noticed what a difference this cream makes! My mother tried some of mine, and she noticed a difference in just one day. She immediately went out and bought her own!

A New Kind of Resolution

Our AIX Admissions Dream Maker, Sally Halder, shared this New Years Resolution Wellness today that I had to pass on!  As many of us have learned from Brad Van Dyke, our Director of Education, in his “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” Master Series, setting goals for ourselves is key to the second habit: beginning with the end in mind. Why I like this wellness that Sally shared so much, is because it breaks large resolutions down into 12  short-term goals, which may eventfully become habit. I also love the idea of setting and sharing these goals with my friends for accountability, support, and group celebration. So, will you be in my “resolution of the month club?” 🙂

Happy New Year!

Aveda Dry Remedy Daily Moisturizing Oil Testimonial and Sourcing Story

If you haven’t experienced our new Dry Remedy Daily Moisturizing Oil (featured on our NYE Pictorial), you are for sure missing out.  I have been using the oil for about a month and when I don’t have it (like when I forgot to throw it in my suitcase on my last trip to Salt Lake City), I feel robbed!  My hair is thin and fine, yet the oil does not feel too heavy when I use the right amount.  (Yes, I have OVERDONE it, but when you experience the aroma of ginger lily, lavender, and bergamot, you will understand how this is possible!)  On my length of hair (very short), I really only need 1 drop.  I prefer to put it on my hair when it is dry, but you can also apply when wet.  Overall, it just gives me a soft, finished, nourished feeling to my hair, and I love it!
